Uganda Cranes coach Micho Hungry to qualify for World Cup
Uganda Cranes coach, Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic, has said he is now very hungry to ensure the team qualifies for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Speaking to AfricanFootball.com on Thursday before the team flew out of the Libreville International Airport, Sredojevic said after making it to the Africa Cup of Nations he now has the hunger for the World Cup.
“We made it to the Afcon after 39 years of waiting and now we have what it takes to also qualify for World Cup. Playing at the Afcon has taught us lessons and we are seriously going back to the drawing board,? said the coach.
Uganda failed to make it to the knock out stage at the on-going Afcon in Gabon after they lost by the same 1-0 scoreline to Ghana and Egypt. They managed to register a 1-1 draw against Mali in the last Group D game played on Wednesday.
Interestingly the two teams Uganda lost to at the Afcon are also in the same Group E for the World Cup qualifiers. Uganda is second behind Egypt in the World Cup qualifiers, while Ghana are third and Congo Brazzaville bottom.
Sredojevic said qualifying for the World Cup is a reality although he adds that the government of Uganda should treat the team better and provide all that is needed. “We were like beggers when preparing the team for the Afcon and if we are to qualify for the World Cup we should get better treatment,? he added.
